Flu Shots? Will you, Won’t you and Why?
Got my 1st annual seasonal flu shot yesterday … did not feel a thing then or now. Anticlimatic for sure. I expected at least a tender shoulder or some heat … just something to confirm in fact that my sentinel cells had noticed the new comers and moved to get my immune system fighting same. So what about the H1N1 shot. You getting it or not and why? My own position is that I’m getting it when and if it is available. I have my doubts but we’ll see. As to why – for the following in no particular order:
- Every week I am around elderly men and women
- Most weeks I’m around pregnant women and / or young children
- Every week I’m in the company of school teachers
- I live with an elderly sister and have a second elderly sister.
For me, for the above reasons I believe it is socially responsible for me to have the shot.
For the previous adult years of my life it was my fervent annual decision to NOT have a flu shot, in fact not to have any shot, including tetenouos. Was thinking about this the other day and can not honestly remember ever having one. Likewise when I was an elementary school age child shot day I’d have a note excusing me. I can not remember exactly why except that my pediatriacian, Dr. Shriver had her reasons.
So how about you?
